Congratulations on your Mary Gates scholarship! Whether you are a Research Scholar, Leadership Scholar or Community Investment Scholar, we're here to support you.

Scholar Events

Different scholar development, community building, and resource sharing events are offered throughout the year, so pay attention to emails coming from mgates@uw.edu for important information and invitations. 

Annual events scholars to are expected to attend

  • Mary Gates Scholar Orientation: typically hosted within the first few weeks of winter quarter.
  • Mary Gates Scholar Annual Reception: typically hosted in April

Maintaining your scholarship

To continue to receive your Mary Gates Scholarship, you must:

  • Stay actively engaged with their project and mentor.
  • Continue to enroll as a full-time undergraduate at UW, enrolled in at least 12 credits in Autumn, Winter, or Spring. If you would like to receive your scholarship during Summer Quarter, you must be enrolled in at least one credit for Summer Quarter. You cannot receive your scholarship during any quarter (including Summer) if you are not enrolled in any credits.
    • Enrollment requirements for Community Investment Scholars may vary.
  • Complete one brief survey each quarter you receive funding.
  • Present your work at the Undergraduate Research Symposium or Spring Celebration of Leadership & Service. If you cannot present the year of your award, you are expected to do so the following year.

Changes to your enrollment or scholarship

Please consult with the Mary Gates Endowment staff (email mgates@uw.edu) about any changes you need to make during your award period before submitting any of these forms. 

  • Scholar Change of Award Quarter form: This form is for new or current scholars who would like to receive scholarship disbursements during different quarters than originally proposed. You will need confirmation from your mentor that they are able to mentor you during the new disbursement quarters.
  • Scholar Award Requirement Petition: This form is for current scholars whose full-time enrollment, and therefore scholarship eligibility, is being affected by special or financial circumstances.
