Three-Dimensional Trapped Atom Arrays with Camera-in-the-Loop Optimization

Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize technology by solving complex problems beyond the reach of classical computers. However, current two-dimensional trapped atom implementations face significant limitations with scalability, coherence, and error rates. We aim to extend the trap array into three dimensions, where we can increase qubit counts while maintaining spatial separation, improving efficiency and fidelity of gate operations. We generate this array using a Spatial Light Modulator (SLM), but inherent imperfections of the optics in our system can affect the stability of the output. To mitigate this, I am incorporating a camera-in-the-loop feedback system which continuously monitors atomic trap positions, comparing the experimental results with the intended trap distribution and adjusting the hologram accordingly. I anticipate this approach to yield improved-accuracy hologram generation, proving feasibility of scalable neutral-atom quantum processors.

What I learned

My work made me realize that no matter how much I learn, there’s always going to be more topics in my field that I don’t know. Research, beyond the technical skills that I’ve gained, has taught me to love this endless chase.
