Project

YoloV3 and the Biology of Aging

For this project I trained a neural network to recognize yeast cells in different stages of their life cycle for the purposes of screening for lifespan extensions in different yeast strains.

What I learned

Through this research project I learned a lot about both the power and the limitations of machine learning, along with different ways to balance datasets and toggle input parameters to machine learning algorithms to achieve statistically accurate results.

Advice for future applicants

My advice for future scholars is this: you should present more than just ideas in your application. You should have data and other deliverables that can be discussed.
