Project

UW First-Year Programs FIG Leader

As a returning FIG Leader, I prepared and taught an introductory college transition course (GEN ST 199) for the second time to incoming freshmen of the UW class of 2028. In this role, I prioritized student perspectives and mutual respect. I was responsible for course logistics, grading, canvas announcements, and email inquiries.

What I learned

I learned how to better navigate hard conversations with students who were struggling with classes and college, or uncertain about the future. Being a leader requires an actionable plan, effective communication, and patience, all aspects which I hope to carry into my career and personal relationships later in life.

Advice for future applicants

Choose something you’re truly passionate about, and write honestly and personably.
