Sensit-IV: Bedside device for early shock detection and guided fluid resuscitation
Shock is a critical condition that can be induced by a myriad of causes, making it a major burden on intensive care units (ICUs) globally. Clinically, it is defined as acute circulatory failure that results in systemic hypoperfusion to organs and inadequate oxygen utilization. When shock is not appropriately addressed, capillaries exhibit maladaptive behavior, causing fluid accumulation that greatly compromises organ function. The challenge is that shock is highly heterogenous, which makes it difficult to accurately quantify, and current tests are imprecise due to physiological differences between patients. Due to these limitations, we are developing a device that monitors shock-indicating biomarkers to more reliably track shock progression and optimize treatment protocols.
